TJYH | Deep integration of radar and UAVs

Browse: 123 Time: 2025-02-08

The deep integration of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is a cutting-edge field in current technological development. By integrating radar technology into UAV platforms, not only is the performance and application range of miniature SAR enhanced, but it also provides strong technical support for future intelligent airspace management.

The following is an introduction to our company's deep integration of radar and UAVs.

Advantages of Deep Integration of Radar and UAVs:

Enhanced Perception: UAVs integrating radar systems can achieve high-precision target detection and tracking in complex environments, greatly improving their autonomous navigation capabilities.

Improved Mission Efficiency: Radar data can help UAVs better plan flight paths, avoid obstacles, and adjust mission strategies in real time, thereby improving mission execution efficiency and success rate.

Expanded Application Scope: UAVs with radar capabilities can play an important role in more fields, such as search and rescue operations, environmental monitoring, and disaster assessment.

The following mainly introduces some UAVs in the SAR system:

1. Multi-rotor UAVs
Multi-rotor UAVs are unmanned rotary-wing aircraft with three or more rotor shafts. The rotors generate thrust through the rotation of electric motors on each shaft. The rotor collective pitch of this type of aircraft is fixed, unlike that of a typical helicopter which is variable. By altering the relative rotational speeds between different rotors, the magnitude of the thrust on a single shaft can be changed, thereby controlling the aircraft's trajectory. Multirotor aircraft, due to their strong maneuverability, vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, and hovering ability, are primarily suitable for low-altitude, low-speed missions requiring vertical takeoff and landing and hovering. These aircraft have a simple and reliable structure and strong wind resistance, thus finding wide application in various scenarios.

2. Fixed-Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

Fixed-wing UAVs are unmanned aerial vehicles with a fixed-wing design, similar to traditional aircraft, relying primarily on their wings for lift. Compared to multi-rotor UAVs, fixed-wing UAVs offer higher flight efficiency, endurance, and speed, making them suitable for long-duration, wide-area missions. They are widely used in agricultural monitoring, geographic mapping, environmental protection, disaster response, and military reconnaissance. Fixed-wing UAVs can typically carry heavier sensors (such as high-definition cameras and lidar) for high-precision data acquisition. Furthermore, modern fixed-wing UAVs often possess automatic takeoff and landing and flight planning capabilities, reducing operator workload. In recent years, with technological advancements, fixed-wing UAVs have made continuous progress in endurance, intelligence, and sensor integration, demonstrating enormous application potential and market value.

Conclusion: Multi-rotor and fixed-wing UAVs each have their advantages and disadvantages in radar applications, depending on specific mission requirements and usage scenarios. Therefore, a comprehensive consideration should be given to factors such as mission requirements, coverage area size, ease of operation, and budget. Secondly, in terms of mission efficiency, UAVs equipped with radar systems can perform more precise target positioning and data acquisition.

Tianjing Yunhu | MiniSAR: Full Polarimetric Imaging Capability

In the field of remote sensing today, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), visible light, and infrared together form a multi-layered observation system. Visible light remote sensing is intuitive and clear, while infrared remote sensing excels at thermal sensing. However, both are passive detection methods, heavily reliant on sunlight or the target's own thermal radiation. Once they encounter cloud cover, nightfall, or rainy/foggy weather, their detection capabilities are significantly reduced or even completely lost.

Tianjing Yunhu | P-band Airborne SAR Radar System

Low-frequency radars (such as P-band and L-band radars) can "see farther and see more clearly" because of their longer wavelengths, lower attenuation, and reduced sensitivity to stealth coatings. In modern air defense systems, they are key to anti-stealth radars. They can penetrate 1-meter-thick camouflage netting and 3-meter-thick bushes to identify hidden tanks and radar stations, and are less likely to trigger enemy warning systems, demonstrating significant advantages in covert detection.

Tianjing Yunhu | Miniature SAR Vehicle Target Dataset

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) target detection datasets are a core foundation for training and evaluating deep learning models. These datasets cover various target types, including ships, aircraft, vehicles, bridges, and oil tanks, and are applicable to multiple fields such as military reconnaissance, maritime monitoring, and traffic management. They not only provide high-resolution SAR images but also contain precise annotation information (category, location, size, etc.), ensuring improved algorithm performance.

Tianjing Yunhu | Airborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) Calibration Capability

Airborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) calibration refers to the calibration of various parameters of an airborne SAR system using specific methods to eliminate systematic and environmental errors, thereby ensuring the quality of SAR images, positioning accuracy, and the accuracy of inversion parameters. Airborne SAR calibration is mainly divided into three categories: geometric calibration, radiometric calibration, and polarimetric calibration.

UAV L-band Heavy Orbit Interferometric SAR System: Airborne Verification for Millimeter-Level Deformation Monitoring

Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) technology, with its all-weather, 24/7 capability and high sensitivity to surface deformation, has become an important tool for geological hazard monitoring, ground subsidence investigation, and infrastructure health diagnosis. Integrating InSAR technology onto unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms further overcomes the limitations of long satellite revisit cycles, insufficient maneuverability, and high costs associated with manned operations, providing a new approach for regional, high-frequency, and high-precision deformation monitoring. However, the small size and susceptibility of UAV platforms to airflow disturbances make it difficult to maintain consistent flight paths during repeated flights, posing a significant challenge to double-track interferometry processing.
